چکیده

In many scenarios, self-organization is the driving force for the use of a peer-to-peer (p2p) network. However, most current p2p networks are not truly self-organizing, as little attention has been paid on how new nodes join a p2p network, the so-called bootstrapping. Current p2p network protocols rely on prior-knowledge of nodes like a list of IP addresses of bootstrap servers or like a list of known peers of a p2p network. However, this kind of prior knowledge conflicts with the selforganization principle and the distributed character of p2p networks. In this paper, we present the design of a generic, self-organizing, and distributed bootstrap service which can be used to bootstrap p2p networks of arbitrary size, even very small, private p2p networks. This bootstrap service works in today’s Internet and it can be easily integrated into existing p2p applications. We present an evaluation of the proposed bootstrapping service showing the efficiency of our approach.

Optimization of Distributed Services with UNISONO

Distributed services are a special case of P2P networks where nodes have several distinctive tasks. Based on previous work, we show how UNISONO provides a way to optimize these services to increase performance, efficiency and user experience. UNISONO is a generic framework for host-based distributed network measurements. In this talk, we present UNISONO as an Enabler for self-organizing Service...

A Peer-to-Peer-Based Service Infrastructure for Distributed Power Generation

The shift towards decentralization in power generation raises the need for a largescale control infrastructure to support a high number of distributed power generators. Peer-topeer computing provides self-organizing, Internet-scale infrastructures being resilient to node failure, which makes peer-to-peer seem a natural basis for a large-scale control application. However, raw peer-to-peer overl...

A Genetic Programming-based trust model for P2P Networks

Abstract— Peer-to-Peer ( P2P ) systems have been the center of attention in recent years due to their advantage . Since each node in such networks can act both as a service provider and as a client , they are subject to different attacks . Therefore it is vital to manage confidence for these vulnerable environments in order to eliminate unsafe peers . This paper investigates the use of genetic ...

Mobile ad-hoc-networks are complex, self-organizing, decentralized communication systems. Consequently, applications on top of this infrastructure need to follow the principle of selforganization in order to provide the necessary scalability and adaptability to dynamically changing resource availability, application requirements and mobility. We investigate this problem from the perspective of ...

A Game Theoretic Framework for Incentives in P2P Systems

Peer-To-Peer (P2P) networks are self-organizing, distributed systems, with no centralized authority or infrastructure. Because of the voluntary participation, the availability of resources in a P2P system can be highly variable and unpredictable. In this paper, we use ideas from Game Theory to study the interaction of strategic and rational peers, and propose a differential service-based incent...
